Schöneberg is the residence of the Malzfabrik formerly built by Schultheiß. The company was closed down in the mid 1990’s. In 2005 it opened its doors again once the listed building had been energetically restored. These days the Malzfabrik is used for cultural- and art events as well as renting out office space in compliance with ecological prerequisites. Great emphasis is put on sustainability. This includes the flushing of toilets, by which up to 50 per cent of water can be saved via seating furniture and bicycle stands self-made of recycled material right up to a water filtering plant which removes the necessity of ever buying water in plastic bottles again. The Malzfabrik has already received various prizes for its green ideas.
