ImplaN - Initial infrastructure for hydrogen mobility based on predictable demand

It is mandatory that Germany must reduce its CO2 emissions drastically in order to achieve its climate objectives. This also applies to the traffic sector as it is responsible for about 20 per cent of the greenhouse gases emitted in Germany. Problems in connection with fine dust and poisonous exhaust gases also emphasise that combustion engines must not play an important role in the traffic of the future anymore. Battery- and hydrogen drives are a better alternative but currently their exchange encounters a problem: petrol stations have no incentive to offer hydrogen as long as nobody asks for it and potential customer do not have an incentive to buy hydrogen-driven vehicles as long as there is no infrastructure for obtaining hydrogen. This is exactly where ImplaN comes into play.

Predictable demands are particularly suitable for the initial phase of setting up a hydrogen infrastructure. This refers to vehicles whose paths and periods of use are always similar and thus predictable - such as buses, taxis and car-sharing fleets. If they use hydrogen, petrol stations will have a reliable clientele and the petrol station can be run more economically. Above all, fleets only need a locally restricted infrastructure as compared to private vehicles so that this can be built up step by step. In an ideal scenario there will be a network of petrol stations in the end where also private vehicle users can benefit from.
