Flussbad Berlin Flussbad-Garten
The project "Flussbad Berlin" deals with the transformation and activation of the now largely unused Spree Canal in Berlin-Mitte and the adjacent urban space. Along the “Museumsinsel”, between Humboldt Forum and Bode Museum, an approximately 840-metre-long river section is to serve as public space inviting the inhabitants and visitors of the city to swim. The river water will of course be purified and the Spree Canal at “Fischerinsel” will be transformed into an ecological water landscape. At the bridge “Gertraudenbrücke” and the Federal Foreign Office, one can have a look at an ecological test filter that cleans the Spree water, which is essentially contaminated by occasional discharges from the combined sewer system. If the project is successful, Berlin would be enriched by an ecological attraction and by a new blue link that emerges between Alexanderplatz and Friedrichstraße.
