Berliner Wasserbetriebe Maintenance and repair (AUZUKA)
The city's sewers are 9,725 km long – this corresponds to a stretch from Berlin to Beijing. These are sewers for wastewater (4,473 km), rainwater (3,324 km) and mixed water (1,928 km). To ensure that the wastewater can flow without problems, Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB) regularly check the canals with camera robots, take pictures (2D) of individual sections of the canal and then have to be evaluated manually by experts. This often leads to errors. In order to solve this problem, the joint project AUZUKA, funded by the BMBF, was started. The aim is to create assistance systems for wastewater treatment companies and municipalities that can (partially) record and evaluate sewer damage automatically. Possible damage could be detected at early stage, e.g. in order to reduce construction measures and restrictions to road traffic.
